Chili Cook-Off Is A Hot Event
Westheights Community Church
One of the most anticipated events at Westheights Community Church is our annual Chili Cook-off. This year we had 18 chili entries and 160 attendees. Obviously we like our chili at Westheights!
How the event works is that we give each attendee a handful of beans and ask them to use their beans as votes for their favourite chili dish. Then, for the next 2 two hours, we have fun tasting, discussing and voting for our favourite chilis.
You may wonder how many different types of chili are possible. Well, we can tell you that there was great diversity in flavour profiles, aroma, colour, consistency, and aftertaste. Special mention goes to the chili entry that was made with camel and water buffalo meat as well as the one that consisted solely of jelly beans (the kids loved this one). This year’s winner was a unique cheese, white bean and pulled chicken chili (check out our blog for the recipe!).
While the food was amazing, the chili really just a great excuse to get together. It was a pleasure to see lots of conversations happening throughout the night. In particular, it was great to see some of our newer families get better connected with others in our church family.
