God guided the Brethren in Christ Church of North America to send missionaries to Cuba in 1954, which soon led to the establishment of two local congregations. Following the triumph of the revolution in 1959 foreign missionaries were required to leave Cuba and for numerous years there was no communication between the Cuban and the North American Brethren in Christ churches. In 1976, Rev. Ross Nigh and his wife Roxena from Canada, secured Cuban visas, travelled there, and discovered the two Cuban churches intact, renewing communication with them. We rejoice that over the years God has protected and provided for His church in Cuba, which in recent decades has flourished with churches being established across the width and breadth of this island nation.
Today BIC Canada-Global maintains a vital partnership with the Brethren in Christ Church of Cuba through leadership training, house church pastor support, and compassionate ministry by responding to material needs in the country.
BIC Canada Global is also pleased to partner with The Canadian–Cuban Projects Team, a partner organization that provides funds and assistance for major projects in Cuba like the current Leadership Training Conference Centre Project in Palmira, the construction of which is nearing completion. There are regular opportunities to participate on teams that travel to Cuba for hands-on partnership.
