Botswana

The Botswana BIC ministry began in 1999 as an outreach ministry of the Zimbabwe BIC Church and now has approximately six congregations with 177 members. The current leader is Reverend Mtatshelwa Bozongwana, National Chairman.

Kenya

The Brethren in Christ Church in Kenya was recognized by the International Brethren in Christ Association in 2010 and now has approximately 25 congregations with 4900 members located mostly in the western part of the country. The current leader is Reverend Antony Karemeri Kinuthia, Bishop.

BIC Canada is currently engaging in the following activities with the Kenyan church:

  • Leadership Development: BIC Canada-Global, in partnership with the BIC Church of Zambia, is providing the financial support for a Zambian couple to serve for two years to provide training for pastors and church leaders.
  • Evangelism and Church Planting: Large tents used for outdoor, outreach events are being purchased to expand the evangelistic ministry of the church and as first steps to planting new churches.
  • Compassionate Engagement: We are sponsoring the tuition at a local school for children from families who would otherwise be unable to afford education.

Malawi

The Mpingo Wa Abale Mwa Kristu (Brethren in Christ Church) in Malawi was founded in 1983 through an outreach ministry of the Zimbabwe BIC Church and now has approximately 46 congregations with 4050 members spread across the country; the majority of congregations are located in southern Malawi. The current leader is Reverend Francis Aron Kamoto, Bishop.

BIC Canada is currently engaging in the following activities with the Malawian church:

Compassionate Engagement:

  • Severe flooding in January 2015 destroyed thousands of homes, crops, and roads. In partnership with BIC US and MCC, we are responding to the needs of both church members and other villagers at this time.
  • Purchasing of goats for income generation projects in rural villagesto care for those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Leadership Development:

  • The completion of the construction of the national church centre. This large, multipurpose facility in Blantyre will serve the leadership training and other needs of this growing church.
  • Leadership Training – Sponsorship of BIC pastoral students at the Evangelical Bible College of Malawi; seminars for pastors and church leaders.

Evangelism and Church Planting:

  • Provision of bicycles for pastors to both facilitate and expand their ministry.
  • Church Roofs – Partnering with local churches to finish locally initiated building projects by providing sheet metal for the roof.

Mozambique

The Igreja Irmãos em Cristo em Moçambique (Brethren in Christ Church in Mozambique)founded in 1990 now has approximately 99 congregations with 7,350 members spread across the country. This church has close ties with the Brethren in Christ Church in Malawi, which sponsored missionaries to Mozambique over ten years ago.  The current leader is Reverend Mubecane Filipe Manharage, Bishop.

BIC Canada is currently engaging in the following activities with the Mozambique church:

South Africa

The Brethren in Chris Church in South Africa was founded in 1988 in the township of Soshanguve near the city of Pretoria. The church now has approximately 15 congregations with 1375 members mostly in the Pretoria and Johannesburg area. The current leader is Reverend Benedict Ndlovu, Overseer.

Zambia

The Brethren in Christ Church in Zambia, founded in 1906, now has approximately 203 congregations with 17,946 members spread across the country, with the majority of the churches located in southern province.  In addition to local congregations, the ministry of this national church includes hospitals, clinics, schools, and pastoral training institutions. The current leader is Reverend Thuma Hamukang’andu, Bishop.

BIC Canada is currently engaging in the following activities with the Zambian church:

Leadership Development: BIC Canada Global has placed two families at the Macha International Christian School to assist its ministry of training an emerging generation of leaders for Zambia.

Compassionate Engagement:

    • Safe and secure water supply: Wells are being drilled in areas desperate for a reliable source of water.
    • Macha Hospital: BIC Canada Global is working with the leadership of the Hospital to discern maintenance and infrastructure needs to ensure the current and future successful operation of this vital ministry.

Zimbabwe

Ibandla Labazalwane kuKristu eZimbabwe (Brethren in Christ Church) founded in 1898 now has approximately 287 congregations with 42382 members across the country, but with the major focus being in the southern and western parts of the country. In addition to local congregations, the ministry of this national church includes hospitals, clinics, schools, and pastoral training institutions.

The current leader is Reverend Sindah Ngulube, Bishop.
